A nightmare downtown: numerous roads closed this weekend

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Plan ahead if you're heading downtown this weekend, because multiple roads will be closed.

Roads in the north and west sides of the downtown loop will be closed beginning at midnight on Saturday, November 23 until just before midnight on Monday, November 24.

Traffic will be seriously impacted, according to MoDOT, and numerous roads are affected. they include:

  • ALL entrance and exit ramps to I-35 in the north loop 
  • Southbound I-35 to westbound I-70 at southbound U.S. 71
  • Ramp from northbound U.S. 71 to southbound I-35 and westbound I-70
  • Loop ramp from from Independence Avenue to southbound I-35
  • Southbound ramp from Missouri 9 to southbound I-35
  • Ramp from southbound I-35 to westbound Independence Avenue

The closures are part of surveying work being carried out to find a suitable replacement for the Buck O'Neil Bridge, which will remain open during the work, but will be difficult to access.

MoDOT said drivers should plan ahead and expect delays.
