Athletes in KCK to compete in Wheelchair Softball World Series

Athletes from around the country are in the Kansas City area for the Wheelchair Softball World Series.

The National Wheelchair Softball Association's 43rd tournament is being played through Saturday on two parking surfaces near Cabela's and T-Bones Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas.

Some adjustments are necessary, said Bill Brooks, president of Midwest Adaptive Sports, the local sponsor.

"If you look out onto the field you won't see any raised bases or any surfaces, every thing is painted onto the asphalt or the concrete," Brooks said. "That way the wheelchairs can roll right over the top of those."

Many of the players are involved in other wheelchair sports, like basketball and rugby. There is no admission charge for people who want to catch a game.
