Burglars strike at least six gun stores in two months

Federal agents want the public's help in solving a rash of gun store burglaries in the Kansas City area.

There have been at least six break-ins over the past two months. The latest was Saturday, when someone stole merchandise from Frontier Justice in Kansas City, Kansas. Investigators are not discussing how many firearms were taken.

KMBZ asked ATF spokesman John Ham whether the burglaries are linked.

"When you have this many burglaries this close together, it's certainly something that our investigators are taking into consideration, although I don't know that we've found that connection," Ham said.

The burglaries occurred in Raymore, Independence, Overland Park and Kansas City, Kansas. Federal requirements for securing retail firearm businesses are vague, but ATF personnel will advise
sellers on the best practices.

"The ATF spends a lot of their time working with the industry, working with gun retailers, and giving them a little guidance when it comes to security," Ham said.

A $10,000 reward is available to anyone who provides information that helps solve the crimes. Tipsters can call 1-888-ATF-TIPS.
