KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- August 16 is designated as the officially unofficial holiday celebrating all things Kansas City.

816 Day, in its second year, will draw crowds up and down the Streetcar Line from Union Station north to the River Market.

Sue Patterson, Director of Market and Events for City Market, told KMBZ 816 Day wouldn't be possible without a strong team of community organizations.

"We partnered with KC Street Car, Downtown Neighborhood Association, Downtown Council, Visit KC, and the City of Kansas City, as well as Ride KC," Patterson said.

Named for the area code on the Missouri side of the state line, 816 Day brings charities, restaurants and local shops together to celebrate the Paris of the Plains.

Sarah Darby, Owner and Founder of Bloom Baking Company in City Market, says events like 816 Day are great for businesses like her's.

"Any time that we have celebrations or events that happen on the weekend, particularly in the City Market, we see just large volumes of people. We are very weekend and weather dependent," Darby explained.
