Berry played in 89 games in nine seasons with the Chiefs. But he's been off the field for most of the last two seasons with injuries.

His teammate, Jeff Allen, wrote on Twitter, "I don’t think I’ve ever played with someone that loves the game of football as much as Eric Berry. Great teammate and leader."

The move to release Berry comes on the heels of the Chiefs releasing linebackers Justin Houston and Dee Ford.
