Children's Mercy Park hosts funeral for two more fallen officers

Once again, law enforcement officers from across the country gather for a funeral at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas. This time they will honor two Wyandotte County Sheriff's Deputies who were killed in the line of duty.

Deputies Theresa King and Patrick Rohrer were shot during an inmate transfer outside Wyandotte County Correctional and Court Services building Friday morning.

Brad Lemon, president of the Kansas City Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 99, has been to one soccer match at the stadium. Thursday he attends services for the third and fourth law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty in recent years.

"I've gotten to the point where I was shocked the first couple of times (officers were killed)," Lemon said. "Now, I'm almost speechless when it comes to it."

The Kansas City area represents an amazing community, Lemon said, though it seem to him that violence is becoming more prevalent.

"The community itself, preying on itself, preying on us, and I don't know a way to stop it," Lemon said. "If I had a magic wand, I'd wave it."

Officers at the funeral will pay their respects to the fallen and return to work as they are sworn to do, to make their communities safer, Lemon said.
