Police departments are well represented, said Cougar Gray, who coordinates fund raising in the Kansas City area.

"We go from Gardner, Wyandotte County, Lawrence to Prairie Village," Gray said. "There are 13 different (northeast Kansas) departments that participate each year."

The torch made its way through Kansas City, Kansas Tuesday. Olathe and Merriam carry the torch Wednesday. Each year in the Sunflower State law enforcement agencies raise more than $500,000 for Special Olympics.
