Kansas City, MO - It's been a long road, but after three years of planning, the doors to the Kansas City Girls Preparatory Academy is finally ready to open. Their three core values are community, growth and freedom. Jahna Riley the Family and Community Engagement Coordinator at Girls Prep says this school is vital to the community.

"When you educate a girl, then you educate the entire community, just because of the impact and the ways that girls and woman connect and share," says Riley.

KCGPA will eventually serve fifth through 12th grades, adding a class of 100 girls each year until the school is full.

Riley feels it's inspiring that every positive stereotype in school you can think of will be a girl. Whether it's a sports captain, an academic leader, or the student council President, she'll be a girl, sharing who she is and advocating for herself.

77 girls are registered for this Fall, but the goal is 100. Any girl entering 5th grade within the Kansas City public school boundaries can come to the school. There's no tests, and no tuition fees.

The charter located at 5000 east 17th Street will open on August 19th.
