The Kansas City Health Department is working extra hours to help people get their kids immunized before school starts.

The Health Department is usually closed Saturdays, but they're open from 9 to 2 Saturday at the clinic at 2400 Troost Avenue. The clinic will also be open two extra hours, until 6 p.m., on Monday. The state of Missouri requires up-to-date immunizations before students are allowed in public schools. Shots are free for people who qualify for the Federal Vaccine for Children program.

Parents and guardians will need to bring some important documents:

Photo IDs
Insurance cards
Medicaid cards
Immunization records
School letters of written consent (for non-parental guardians)

Most school districts in the area are starting next week. The first official day of school for most students in Kansas City Public Schools is Monday.

The Health Department is holding a raffle to give away some back-to-school themed prizes. The University of Kansas is conducting a community needs survey, and the school is raffling off four iPads.

More details, including vaccine prices, are available at the KCHD website.
