ST. LOUIS (AP) - After more than two decades behind bars, 44-year-old Ricky Kidd walked out of the prison in Cameron, Missouri prison Thursday and hugged his daughter.

Kidd had maintained his innocence ever since he was accused of participating in the 1996 murders of two men in Kansas City.

DeKalb County Judge Daren Adkins said Thursday that Kidd should be freed pending further proceedings in the case.

Adkins issued the order one day after finding that there was "clear and convincing" evidence that Kidd was innocent of the deaths of George Bryant and Oscar Bridges.

Court records show that Kidd told authorities he was with his girlfriend at the time of the killings, and that eyewitnesses who testified against him later recanted.

Kidd's girlfriend was four months pregnant with their daughter at the time of the murders. She is the one who met her father outside the prison walls.
