Kansas City, MO - Traffic around the Truman Sports Complex is always a challenge on game days, but fans who do not leave early for the Chiefs home opener on Sunday could be in trouble.

A major construction project continues near Arrowhead Stadium, with multiple detours.

MODOT workers have demolished ramps from Interstate 435 and Interstate 70 in both directions.

"I think the biggest challenge that you face in a project like this is just the amount of cars that you have to deal with," said James Pflum, Missouri Department of Transportation spokesman.

Engineers encourage drivers to be vigilant and patient. MoDOT has posted a list of detours on its website.

"If they follow the directions that are out there, they should be able to get in easily," Pflum said.

Work is expected to wrap up in December 2020.
