Losing a police officer in the line of duty is no laughing matter, but laughs will raise money for their families in the Kansas City area.

Four veteran comedians are putting on a show this Friday at the Scottish Rite Temple at 31st and Paseo in Kansas City. Proceeds from the show will go to the families of Det. Brad Lancaster and Capt. Robert Melton, Kansas City, Kansas Police and Dep. Brandon Collins, Johnson County Sheriff's Office, said Patrick DeGuire, one of the comedians.

The headliner is comedy legend Paul Rodriguez.

"The beautiful thing about standup is everyone loves to laugh" DeGuire said. "It's a great opportunity to bring the community together with law enforcement through laughter."

The northeast Kansas chapter of the National Latino Peace Officers Association is sponsoring the show.

The president of the NLPOA saw a similar show in San Diego and asked DeGuire if he could organize a benefit in Kansas City.

Tickets are $20. VIP tickets are $30 and they include a meet-and-greet with Paul Rodriguez.

The show will contain some adult content. It is intended for audiences 18 and over, DeGuire said.
