The Oakland Police Department has confirmed to KCBS Radio that two Federal Protective Service officers were shot on Friday night in Oakland, and one has died from their injuries.

It happened in the area of 12th and Clay Streets, near the Federal Building in Downtown Oakland and just half a dozen blocks from Oakland Police Headquarters.

The Federal Protective Service agency is the police division of the Department of Homeland Security.

The shooting occurred during the protests in response to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, but it has not been confirmed whether it was related to the event.

The Oakland Police Department told KCBS Radio that the FBI will be taking over the investigation.
