Whiskers Cat Cafe turns one

Kansas City, MO - It was Black Friday when Whiskers Cat Cafe first opened their doors. Over the last year the cafe has adopted out 167 cats, they've done countless sessions of cat yoga, painting with cats, private parties, trivia nights, and crafting, but owner Audrey Boese says it's all been worth it.

"It was really overwhelming in the beginning. It was incredibly exciting and fast paced, and there was definitely a learning curve," explains Boese.

She said she had high expectations in the beginning and feels those have been exceeded.

Boese says she learned to stay focused on what's most important. "Everything we do we put the cats first, and then everything else kind of falls in to place. If we are taking care of them and their needs and not overwhelming or stressing them out, it creates a good environment that people also enjoy."

A big win has been for those more hard to adopt, shy cats. People get to spend an entire hour in the cafe and the cats are able to display their personality. Potential adopters can find exactly what they're looking for in an environment the cats are comfortable in.

Boese says 99% of the time she's over the moon excited that she followed through on opening Whiskers.

"I had multiple opportunities to back out because it was too difficult or all sorts of excuses. I'm really glad I stuck with it because the reward is so high when you see cats going to good families," explains Boese.

The cafe is having a Birthday Celebration on November 23rd with kittens on-site, a silent auction, and Eric from KC Trivia Geeks. Tickets can be purchased online with 100% of the proceeds going back to the cats.
